letting go

letting go

her anger rose familiar
volcano hot and yet,
refusing to escape
from frustrated lips,
strove to press
through incoherent orifices
petrified

her hung’ring to be heard
threatening instead
to follow timeworn
paths of swallowing
to feed her craving need
with yet more searing pain….

and then
oh miracle
a tiny crack this time
although still dumbfounded
she indeed released
a flight
of butterflies!

delicate and free
transformed somehow
from the worms that she had eaten
into beauty

with flabbergasted wonder then she realized
that while she wasn’t looking
the fire had withdrawn
and life again had come
into her forest
