winter withdrawal

winter window 010

outside my window

summer’s party dangles

her bed sags from rafters

piled high with all her bolsters,

laid up for the cold

outside my window

chimes hang silent as a shoulder, cold

belies the steady beat

of eaves that weep, surrender,

following autumn’s lead

i almost missed the harvest!

let fruit rot on that vine

too late, i wonder what might be

gleaned in winter’s wane

shall i grab a pail

capture her abundance

before it turns to ice

when evening drops her veil

at last, i gather stillness

let it seep into my chambers, while

outside my window, summer’s perch

awaits a guest to savor

her sensual serenade
