winter hope

So many seeds, uncountable seeds laid down

through those once lavish, ripening days,

then the deepening humus,

a season of fullness fallen.

All that growth stripped, now desperately needed

to blanket and harbor,

to nurture that hope now,

in death

As I look out on the cold

skeletal landscape of Times Such as These,

seeking comfort, that sap sheltered deep

in those hidden roots waits..

…though we fear, nay, we know

that the harsh pruning days are upon us,

as callous winds blindly fracture

once fruitful limbs, now weighted

by icy accumulations

throughout this dark

harrowing, hallowed time
